CEL recently joined SCEIN, an accelerator for startups helping California meet its energy goals.
CEL is excited to join Cleantech San Diego's Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN) as part of a select group of startups developing solutions to help California meet its energy goals. This is a free program for startups that provides access to the resources and facilities of a number of regional partner organizations. It also provides connections with industry in order to accelerate the commercialization of emerging energy technologies. SCEIN is open to companies with energy-related technologies benefitting California's ratepayers. These companies must work in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, clean transportation, and others. A 2016 grant from the California Energy Commission established the program. CEL's San Diego-based CTO, Jennifer Worrall, previously worked with iteros, another member of SCEIN.
SCEIN provides valuable resources, connections, and assistance to members. For example, in fall 2021, a team of MBA students at San Diego State University reengineered CEL's financial forecasting tool. As part of their graduation capstone project, the student team dove deep into CEL's business model and forecasting needs. As a result, they developed a lightweight and scalable model to help the company adapt to rapidly changing labor, costs of goods, and market conditions.
