SCE is hosting a virtual, two-part, Grid-Interactive Efficient Building Controls course that you can benefit from. This highly interactive, web-based series will cover the basics of how grid-interactive efficient building controls have become an emerging sector of the energy industry. By taking this informative course, participants will gain an understanding of the technologies, programs and practices that prepare them to address increasing complexity in building energy management, compliance and decarbonization.

Part 1 will provide an overview of what is driving the changes in codes and prices and how automation and controls need to adapt. We will also cover what steers energy use throughout the day and how it relates to cost and carbon. Lastly, we’ll look at how different identities and users impact energy use, cost and carbon.

Part 2 will cover the energy tradeoffs that we will have to make in the real world and how they impact cost, carbon, staff time and occupant comfort. Additionally, we will learn how smart building controls enable or interact with utility rates, rebates programming and other standards and incentive programs. As a final note, we’ll review how current technologies help or hinder our ability to meet energy and occupant goals and how evolving grid-interactive building controls bridge the gap between utilities, codes, occupant comfort and convenience.
